-
Reclaimed at source.
Every sheet and packaging box begins with cardboard recovered from local businesses across Sussex. Collected, sorted and reprocessed close to home, these materials are transformed into lightweight structural board and bespoke packaging, extending the life of valuable fibre and supporting a more circular manufacturing system.

What our customers say
“Beautifully smooth, ready-to-hang boards. Light enough to work flat, sturdy enough for layered oil work — the surface lets the paint do its thing.”
“Flat, strong, light. They take charcoal and acrylic really well — I’ve ordered more to a bespoke size.”
“Our recovered cardboard rerouted into something properly useful — a genuine local circular story we’re glad to be part of.”
As a practising conceptual and installation artist I am always looking for innovative materials and processes to help me resolve complex construction or fabrication challenges. In this quest, I also seek an ethical approach to materials and production methods employed by the supplier and like to engage in a ‘collaborative’ relationship between myself and the company or individual that I have identified. All of these factors were fulfilled when I engaged with Sustainable Ply. They ‘got’ the ‘out of the ordinary’ concept that I was seeking to realise straight away, and were most helpful in suggesting, and indeed undertaking, practical solutions with their wonderful new ‘circularly sustainable’, as well as lightweighted product.
I trialled a small small ply board in 2025 having worked on various brand panels as an artist. The SustainablePly surface was smooth and perfect for both acrylic and organic gessos. The painting had a crisp edged precision resulting from the professional quality surface and it was very responsive to the brushwork and trace which is very important to my paintings . The slots on all sides on the reverse made hanging the works easy in either direction. I will continue to use these panels as a professional artist who needs technical dependability and is increasingly concerned about sustainability. I can highly recommend this product and with many thanks for listening to the artist’s needs when developing it.
The sustainable ply boards provide a perfect surface for working in soft pastel. I use them raw, without primer, and the pastel pigment goes on smoothly and stays put. The surface has just the right amount of ‘claw’ for the pastel to cling to, allowing for multiple layers, fixative and reworking. I’ve used the boards in various sizes. I love that you can hang them without framing, and the hanging indentations on all sides mean you can orient the picture whichever way up you like. The boards look neat and finished, with smart concealed edges. Brilliant for artists working in pastel who want to avoid framing.
I’ve really enjoyed painting on the artboards. They’re lightweight but still feel really solid and well made. The smooth surface with a slight wood grain texture is really nice to work on. Great for working in both acrylic and oils. What I like most though is the thinking behind them. Art is often about nature, sustainability, or environmental issues, but a lot of the materials we use as artists don’t really reflect that. It’s great to see a company actually trying to push things in a better direction by making art materials from responsibly sourced and recycled materials. Feels like a step in the right direction.
